A Tribute alternative

Nobody has to edit it — including us.

Tribute and Gatherfox both collect video messages from a group and turn them into one film. The real difference is who does the editing, and Tribute is genuinely better at one half of that.

Comparison

What both of them do

One link out to the group, browser recording and a finished video at the end. Both are made for the person who volunteered to organize something and now has a folder of clips.

How a Gatherfox project runs

There is no editor to learn and no editor to brief. Four steps, and the longest one is writing the prompt.

  1. 01

    Write the ask

Occasion, recipient, one prompt and a closing date. The prompt travels with the link, which is most of what makes the clips good.

  2. 02

    Share one link

By email, QR code or group chat. Contributors record or upload without an account and see only their own message.

  3. 03

    Review, don’t edit

You get names, durations, captions and quality flags. Reorder, exclude or ask for a retake — there is no timeline to open.

  4. 04

    Preview, then unlock

The complete watermarked preview is free. Paying unlocks the clean download, the caption file and a private viewing page.

Comparison

Where the two diverge

01

Human editing versus no editing at all

Tribute sells a concierge tier where their team compiles and polishes the film for you. Gatherfox does not offer that and does not intend to: the montage is assembled automatically, and the goal is that nobody — you or us — opens an editor.

02

One price per project

Tribute’s own pricing is tiered, with the do-it-yourself tier set by finished length and concierge sold on top. Gatherfox charges one flat price per project, with the preview included and rerenders unlimited once the project is unlocked.

03

What we can tell you about the files

Gatherfox stores media in the EU, records per-clip consent against a consent version, and publishes dated deletion rules — the original upload, the working copy and the final film each have their own clock. Those are facts about Gatherfox; read anyone else’s policy directly.

When Tribute is the better buy

If you want human editors to art-direct the film — a person choosing the music, trimming for pace and shaping the story — Tribute sells exactly that and we do not. That is a different product, not a worse one. Go and buy theirs.

How the other company prices this is described as their own pricing page set it out in August 2026. Check their current terms before you decide.

FAQ

Is there any human editing in Gatherfox?

No. Cleanup is automatic — rotation, speech levels, leading and trailing silence, captions — and you choose the order and which clips are in. If you want somebody to make the creative decisions for you, we are the wrong tool.

Can I still fix things after paying?

Yes, while the working files remain. Payment unlocks the project rather than one export, so you can change the order, captions, theme or included clips and rerender at no extra charge.

How long can each message be?

Up to 60 seconds per contributor, with up to 50 active clips on a standard project and 100 on Workplace.

What do contributors have to install?

Nothing. Recording happens in the browser, and anyone who would rather not record on the spot can upload a file they already have.

See the film first, decide about the money after.

Create the project, collect the messages and watch the whole preview for free. If it still wants a human editor after that, you will know.

See the full preview before paying. Gatherfox builds the montage and shows you the whole film, watermarked, before any payment. You pay only to remove the watermark and download it.
